Classes

We teach our classes primarily on demand. Whether you would just prefer a one-on-one approach, or whether you have a wacky schedule and our regularly scheduled classes don’t work for you, just let us know.

We would love to schedule a one-on-one class with you in spinning, dyeing, knitting, crochet, weaving, or felting. Never feel like you need to struggle, feel lost, or be overwhelmed on your own. We’re ready when you are!

Learn to Knit (Knitting 101)

Knitting is lovely, relaxing, fun, and exciting! What more could you ask for! Oh and it’s also portable! Now we’ve got it all covered. There’s been a revival of interest in knitting and there are thousands of fabulous and amazing patterns out there. Come join in the fun!! Schedule whenever you’re ready!

Learn to Crochet (Crochet 101)

Learn the basics of the fascinating art of crochet. Crochet is easy to learn, with a world of possibilities! There’s been a revival of interest in crocheting and there are thousands of fabulous and amazing patterns out there. Come join in the fun!

Triangle Loom Weaving

Weaving on a triangle loom is wonderfully quick, fun, and easy to pick up! It uses a minimal amount of yarn, and there is lots of room for creativity! In this class you will weave a small project – a kerchief – which will allow you to learn this weaving technique and to finish the entire project in a morning. It’s great!

Weaving on the Cricket (Rigid Heddle Weaving 101)

Rigid Heddle Weaving is a great place to start weaving. Rigid heddle looms are often smaller and much more portable than more complex looms. The weaving we’ll learn today is a simple pattern, and understanding how woven fabric is created will be the focus. Rigid Heddle Weaving provides a lot of room for growth! Come get started in this wonderful class.

Knitting (knitting 201)

You learned to knit – now what? This class will give you the tools to understand how to plan a project. We will discuss pattern selection and talk about sources. You will learn how to substitute yarns in a pattern, read a pattern, and interpret a knitting chart. This will show you how to move forward in the wonderful world of knitting.
Prerequisites: Knowledge of both the knit stitch and the purl stitch

Needle Felt Painting

This easy method of ‘painting with wool’ can be learned by anyone who can handle a sharp needle. In this class we will focus on learning to make a simple wool painting on wool fabric. This skill can be used on purses, scarfs, coats or anything wool, the possibilities are endless.

Needle Felting with Cookie Cutters

Learn to needle felt with wool, felting needles, and cookie cutters. This easy method of felting can be learned by anyone who can handle a sharp needle. This is a fun way to play with fiber and make some great decorations.

Wet Felting Soap Class

Learn how to wet felt on a bar of soap. This is an amazing way to spruce up a bar of soap for a guest bathroom or for a great exfoliating experience.

Tiny Toy Knits: Owl Puffs

Who doesn’t love tiny toys? In this class you’ll learn: knitting in the round on circular needles or dpns or possibly magic loop, kfb increases, kitchner stitch, changing from one color to another, stuffing, eye placement, a little embroidery – and you could also learn Judy’s Magic Cast On (often used for toe up socks). Woohoo! The pattern is free here.
Prerequisites: Able to knit in the round
Fee: $26 + supplies(this uses small amounts of yarn, feel free to bring your scraps)

Toe-Up Socks 101 – In Two Parts

This two-session class will teach how to do a perfect seamless toe, and the kind of heel that most commercial socks use. Socks are perfect portable project!
Prerequisites: Able to knit in the round
Fee: $45 + materials.

Dyeing Workshop

This class will cover how to dye yarn. We will dye 2 skeins of yarn. One will be dyed by the Kettle dye method and the other skein we will hand paint. Come on down to the yarnhouse studio and learn how to dye your own yarn for your next creative project.
Prerequisites: None (Please come in clothing you do not mind getting stains on.)
Fee: $80 this includes all supplies needed

Knitting Fix-It Workshop!

In this class, we’ll cover how to fix mistakes without ripping out your knitting! We’ll learn about how the knit and purl stitches interact with each other, how to work down to a ‘problem area’ from the rows above and pick up dropped stitches, plus much more!

Inkle Loom Weaving

No prerequisite. Learn to use the narrow-band Inkle Loom, an ancient yet modern tool used to make straps, belts, decorative trim, etc. It is lots of fun to use and a marvelous introduction to weaving!

Learn to Spin

Whether you would like to start spinning on a spinning wheel or a drop spindle, we would love to teach you! This is the beginning of making the yarn you want, and of learning much more about fibers and how they differ from each other. Come try it out!

Knitting Circularly using Magic Loop:

This class covers a technique rather than a project. We will do various swatches using the techniques of Magic Loop, both of which are extremely useful for making hats, mittens, or anything where you need to make a round item that gradually closes at the top. As a free extra, you will learn to cable as well. Required: yarn (may bring from home), two circular knitting needles of the same gauge but different lengths (size 7 in 16? and 24?, for example), and one 40? needle, any gauge.
Prerequisite: Ability to knit and purl.
Fee: $40 +supplies

Bunny Nuggets Class

In this class you’ll learn: knitting in the round on circular needles or dpns or possibly magic loop, kfb increases, i-cord, kitchner stitch, changing from one color to another, stuffing, and eye placement. Woohoo! The pattern is free here. Bring at least 50 grams of worsted weight yarn and needles 2 sizes smaller than recommended for your yarn. Dpns and/or circular needles would work.
Prerequisite: Ability to knit and purl.

Color work and steeking class

In this class you will learn to work a second color in a pattern into your circular knitting then cut your project to lay flat.
Prerequisite: Ability to knit in the round
